kid’s climbing triangle
Unshakable Strength for Little Explorers
As a father of five, I designed my climbing triangle to be used for generations. I make my kids’ furniture from solid hardwood and joinery to afford a sturdy stance.
- Handmade quality: Unlike the mass-produced, collapsible toys you can get online, my solid hardwood climbing triangle uses traditional joinery to limit accidents, wobbles and flex.
- Safe: Rugged with rounded edges and incredibly sturdy, it offers a rock-solid foundation for climbing and imaginative play—no shifting, no slipping, no harmful finishes.
- Outdoor version: I locally source thermally modified ash to create a version for use both indoors and outdoors.
Most kids climbing furniture are made on a CNC machines out of man-made plywood and cheap hardware.
My version is not disposable furniture. Constructed with enduring joinery and solid wood, it is a piece that generations of kids will use for decades.

Here is what makes my climbing triangle unique
Sturdy construction: My lap joints that are pegged in place with mortise and tenon joinery for each rung. This assures this climbing triangle can be used and moved with confidence. This is not a collapsible toy.
Fixed rungs: My steps are not round dowels that roll or unscrew. Rather they are more like steps on a ladder, mortised securely so they never move.
Accessories: Add a ramp or a platform for more climbing options. As this is handmade, there are many fun options to custom order.
Details and specifications
Sizes: small (6 rungs or 24 inches), medium (8 rungs 32 inches) and large sizes (10 rungs or 36 inches).
Materials: White oak and thermally modified ash for outdoor use.
The outdoor version is to be “used” outside, but it is not outdoor furniture. It can withstand some rain and cold, but it is not to be stored outside. Using it outdoors can decrease its lifetime due to moisture and temperature changes.
All natural finish: No VOC shellac and hard wax finish.
this is not a collapsible toy
As a father and a craftsman, I engineer my climbing triangles to withstand the realities of childhood play.
Built from solid white oak, these triangles are hefty, solid and designed for permanent stability rather than “flat-pack” convenience.

On all my projects, I use premium hardwoods and traditional joinery to create rigid frames that won’t loosen or wobble over time. By utilizing permanent mortise-and-tenon construction for the leg frame and ramp, my work provides a level of structural integrity that simply can’t be found in a box at a big-box store.
My furniture will never have that “new” furniture smell. I prefer to use 6-8 coats of shellac diluted with denatured alcohol. This traditional finish is easily repairable and releases no VOCs into your home.

In this piece I use both loose tenon joints cut with a Festool Domino and traditional through tenon joinery.
So the triangle steps do not roll or unscrew during use. This also makes it easier for little ones to climb. And makes the ramp virtually unbreakable.
